Apparently, the evac and mission completion are processed before the game checks whether the VIP has been rescued, so if one evacs a VIP as the last action, the game registers the objective (and consequently, the mission) as having failed.

Note that this has nothing to do with evacing an unconscious dark VIP either. If you evac a conscious VIP - whether friendly, or a mind-controlled hostile one - as your last action, you will encounter the same bug. Presumably the same bug affects evacing the ADVENT Forge suit but I have not given that a try.

This is a bug that is present all the way back from the base game. WotC does not fix it (obviously, as we are talking about its interaction with Volunteer Army), and I am not aware of any mod that fixes it either. As of writing, there is a two-year-old open issue in X2 WOTC Community Highlander project Github (https://github.com/X2CommunityCore/X2WOTCCommunityHighlander/issues/1027), and a proposed fix linked to it was never finished and ended up being closed for having no progress.

So, be forewarned - don't evac the VIP last, ever.Carlos M.https://www.blogger.com/profile/00724030488394241024noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3656428975201272042.post-38073809405716057422022-03-15T12:58:50.814-07:002022-03-15T12:58:50.814-07:00Excellent, that's about as clear as can be. This solved the problem. the explosion could not be the reason of the failure, since the failure of the quest counted to me exactly on my turn when my last regular soldier was evacuated. There was still a Spark left on the ground, a double agent and a volunteer carrying a body. I understand your caution about the evacuation object first, but in this case, nothing threatened him. Reinforcements arrived on the next move, there were no active not revealed pods on the map and the VIP was one step away from the evacuation point, and the spark and the stun lancer had to distract attention if something went wrong.Dverkahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10793941432088253091noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3656428975201272042.post-62839919560828699592022-03-15T05:36:32.842-07:002022-03-15T05:36:32.842-07:00Oh wow. I can readily see how the coding could be ...Oh wow. I can readily see how the coding could be set up so this happens. Just to double-check, it failed when your last regular soldier evacced, and not, say, when your next turn started? Because there's another issue where bodies don't have their position updated when picked up, which can lead to you KOing a VIP, carrying their body off, and an explosion in the area you picked them up from kills them even though you've hauled them away from the area, which can come up pretty readily with the variant where the VIP starts next to the car, where the car can cook off and blow up at the start of your turn, so you abruptly fail the capture objective for no immediately obvious reason.

I personally always evac mission objectives first if I can, so this is certainly an issue I would never have run into on my own...

And thanks! Glad to be appreciated.Ghoul Kinghttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15165232279081041131noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3656428975201272042.post-3625035328841740832022-03-14T22:11:03.273-07:002022-03-14T22:11:03.273-07:00Note for the Volunteer army. Despite the fact that...Note for the Volunteer army. Despite the fact that a soldier can carry bodies, I noticed the following: in VIP capture missions, a volunteer carrying a VIP must evacuate before all of your main characters (Sparks do not count they can't carry). I got into a situation where the attempt not to get a will blow led to the fact that all my main characters were evacuated before reinforcements appeared. I left Sparks, a volunteer and a double agent to cover the departure, for obvious reasons (the effects of will do not affect them). I found an unpleasant surprise when the task was counted as failed, despite the fact that the VIP's body was still carried by my volunteer. His evacuation after didn't solve the problem. I'm not sure about the double agent (I haven't checked), but I think the same thing will happen. Don't fall into the trap of leaving at least one regular soldier before the evacuation of the volunteer, if you decide to use them to carry bodies.

I also want to thank the author for his hard work. I have never seen such detailed comprehensive information on the subject, with excellent examples. I have learned a lot from you, you are doing a great job, thank you!Dverkahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10793941432088253091noreply@blogger.com
