It wouldn't at all surprise me if mission failure actually quietly negates the intake boost from successful rescues.Ghoul Kinghttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15165232279081041131noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3656428975201272042.post-5284125372766808332024-03-26T04:01:20.919-07:002024-03-26T04:01:20.919-07:00"a player might honestly think they can simpl..."a player might honestly think they can simply Evac as soon as six Civilians are rescued and get full credit for success that way, even though that's narratively somewhere from 'extremely gross' to 'flagrantly nonsensical' because the mechanics seem to imply it's an option..."

Hi, I'm "a player," although it wasn't as gross as you're implying. I took 2 casualties on the first retaliation mission and just flat out lacked the firepower to damage a regenerating armored Warlock. But I could create some space and save some people, and it's worth noting that this is worth doing as you still get the +3 supply income per saved civilian even if you fail the mission.

This knowledge later led me to this mission result where I saved all the civilians, but failed the mission due to evaccing 4/5 soldiers and being unable to kill the final faceless.

https://www.reddit.com/r/XCOM2/comments/z2xous/an_interesting_mission_result_saved_1313/thesemicolonhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17557640153715119433noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3656428975201272042.post-4269149433919830632024-03-25T12:43:21.201-07:002024-03-25T12:43:21.201-07:00Oh nice. (I strongly suspect Covert Op Ambushes don't increment it, for example, but have never actually tested this theory)

Territory, however, is not relevant to the counter. If you take out 2 Chosen, then do multiple missions in territories owned by the now-dead Chosen, the game will as soon as possible contrive to generate a mission in a territory the final Chosen owns to then have the Chosen appear there. The only extent territory matters to the counter is that if you do a mission in a territory owned by a dead Chosen when the counter says 'spawn a Chosen now', the game won't spawn a Chosen and will instead have to wait until you do a mission in which a Chosen is actually allowed to spawn.Ghoul Kinghttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15165232279081041131noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3656428975201272042.post-82925459719505724272024-03-08T03:48:14.211-08:002024-03-08T03:48:14.211-08:00Hi! I could easily see ADVENT propaganda pushing the narrative that ADVENT soldiers giving up their native tongue in order to do their job better/more efficiently was a "noble sacrifice" and that they deserved the gratitude of the civilian population, all while conveniently sidestepping the issue of having a civilian ask a trooper where the trooper grew up before enlisting or what his favorite flavour of ice cream was and the trooper not having a prepared and believable answer.Batemenacehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06728615099675217014noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3656428975201272042.post-27725704127702997902024-02-05T22:18:07.396-08:002024-02-05T22:18:07.396-08:00It's only now that I have checked my inbox and...It's only now that I have checked my inbox and saw these messages. I mean, orcs seemed to have *joined* the other races in Dark Side for survival and revenge, not that they always belonged to the darkness. And lizardmen perhaps don't care about the distinction at all? I don't remember the lore we got from Armored Princess and haven't reached the undead lizardmen yet, so I might be terribly wrong about the last one.Vonixoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13484504295855003423noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3656428975201272042.post-33352309467741055712024-02-01T15:12:35.359-08:002024-02-01T15:12:35.359-08:00Fair.Fair.Vonixoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13484504295855003423noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3656428975201272042.post-77787495994664463412024-02-01T15:10:03.305-08:002024-02-01T15:10:03.305-08:00I would like to share an instance where I used the...I would like to share an instance where I used the Trembling Hammer (Tribute to Weakness sounds cooler in my opinion but anyways).
In the current Ice and Fire run I am going through, I picked Skald and got my Warriors of Valhalla ability to the second tier. When I was fighting Ksaltotun, I realized I couldn't manage to keep my losses at zero and actually gave Regina's special a shot. I usually forget all about them, but after a few reloads I decided to toss my berserkers into the battleground and let my high tier units support. It went great. Here's the tricky part:
The fight was over. Warriors of Valhalla resurrected what I assume to be %70 of them. Then the special somehow added 20 more berserkers. They breached the leadership limit! Awesome stuff. To be clear, I am not certain whether the special or the ability kicked in first, but I am fairly confident it went down like this. Could it be exploitable? Could it be a bug? Maybe both?
Just wanted to let you guys know. I also really enjoy the "trivia" stuff in the comments. He-Who-DeeplyUnderstood-Darkness (picked it over -Learned- here) seems too great of a backstory character to be discarded. More or less every agent has at least one 'lethal' line that's jarring with tranq rounds ("Splattered a hostile" on Torque always stands out to me), and then the Subdue lines more or less never directly reference the 'smacking the target in melee' aspect of Subdue: more or less all of them would work fine for tranq round 'kills'.

Shelter is certainly the most stand-out example for this, since he's clearly bothered by killing people but not by KOing them; other agents are generally blandly professional either way, enough so it took me a while to notice that 'Subdue' and 'kill' are separate line sets. In retrospect, this probably contributed to my disinterest in Shelter's angst: "I'm upset I killed this guy!" is difficult to take seriously when he very explicitly did not kill that guy.Ghoul Kinghttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15165232279081041131noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3656428975201272042.post-18634594939636083482024-01-29T17:14:49.032-08:002024-01-29T17:14:49.032-08:00/shrug

I assume the developers didn't have time or money to add some more dialogue lines, but tranquiliser rounds are so incredibly useful that it stands out.

He does tend to avoid using the words "killed" or "dead" ("that's one less to worry about", "I stopped the hostile", "I won't let you hurt my friends", that kind of thing) but he does so in a way that implies he actually is killing people, he just doesn't like to admit it.

My first reaction to the character was that he seemed to be modelled on Mark Ruffalo's version of Bruce Banner. I assumed that his later skills would be unusually lethal, but as you point out he isn't even particularly good at killing people, so his angst feels misplaced.Ashley Pomeroyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09466311744358782337noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3656428975201272042.post-50859692003162518602024-01-29T12:30:59.891-08:002024-01-29T12:30:59.891-08:00Is it possible that Eric was a reference to the hi...Is it possible that Eric was a reference to the historical figure Erik the Red? The whole deal with his title and being sent away because of his father's manslaughter (which is *not* what happens in WotN but the exile theme is apparent) is a bit indicative.
